Tuesday, September 9th is high attendance day in Marion County. We need every student at school for a great day of fun and learning. Students can wear their comfy pajamas to school (Please no house shoes for safety reasons). All students will get popsicles at recess and our cafeteria will have some special brownies at lunch.
If GES has the best attendance in the district on high attendance day, Mrs. Russell will kiss a pig!

GES received the attendance trophy for the elementary with the highest attendance in Marion County Schools. We are so proud of our students for showing up to engage in meaningful learning everyday! Thank you for making education a priority for our children.
Reading: Students are learning Nursery Rhymes and Fables in August and September. At the end of the month, we will start our unit on The Five Senses.
Phonics/Skills: Students are learning to blend syllables and sounds to make words. We are also working on handwriting skills.
Math: Students are learning about Number Sense through sorting, counting, and comparing length and height.
Families, please check homework folders nightly. Students will have math homework next week. The students will need to work on each section nightly.
Reading: Knowledge: Students will complete their unit of fables and folktales. We will begin our journey of the human body.
Phonics/Skills: students will focus on tricky words, letter sounds to blend and make words. We will also identify nouns.
Math: Student will add and subtract numbers to 10.
Families, please check homework folders nightly and clean out.

We are learning about place value and rounding in math. We are reading The Wind in the WIllows and learning about perspective, theme, and vowel sounds.
We will be ending our personal narrative unit and beginning the unit on Europe’s Middle Ages.
Math: We will finish and take a quiz on place value and comparing numbers. We will then begin rounding numbers to any place and adding and subtracting multi-digit whole numbers.
Science: We are learning about the internal and external structures of plants. Students should be able to construct an argument about how each structure helps the plant survive.
ELA: We are learning to read and write personal narratives.
Math: Our focus skill will be on volume.
Social Studies: We will finish our Geography and Map skills unit. Students will be introduced to their first DBQ (Document Based Question) assignment of the year.Then, we will begin our study on American Indians.
Writing: Students will learn the parts of the on-demand writing scoring guide and how to use it to improve their writing. Students will also begin looking at on-demand prompts and sources.
