Beta competition winners recognized at BOE meeting

Several MCPS students were recognized at the most recent MCPS Board of Education meeting for their performance in various National Beta Convention competitions from the past summer.

Those students include:

MCHS renovation nearly complete

The renovation of Marion County High School is nearly complete as the final touches are made to the classrooms and hallway space in the second floor of the building. The renovation includes larger classrooms, an additional stairwell, and new science labs.

There's also a new configuration of the non-classroom space that includes a large open area connecting the two main upstairs hallways.

Parents asked to complete strategic planning survey

MCPS is asking parents to complete a brief survey as the district works on its strategic plan (link below). If you have yet to complete the survey, please follow the link below:

October 12 Board of Education recap: student recognitions, strategic planning report, redistricting update

The MCPS Board of Education held its regular monthly meeting Thursday, October 12 at the school district's central office.

You can view the recorded meeting below or at this link.

Among the highlights: Students were recognized for their performance at the National Beta Competition (8:53).

Bob Stokes from the Southern Regional Education Board provided an update on the work the school district has started regarding its strategic plan (21:43).

MCPS Director of Pupil Personnel Angie Akers provided an attendance report that included updates regarding future redistricting (25:02).

Work to replace Roby Dome roof underway

Work has begun on replacing the roof of the Roby Dome at Marion County High School.

The roof sustained storm damage earlier this year.

Reading Celebration set for November 16 at MCKA

The annual Marion County Public Schools Community Reading Celebration will take place Thursday, November 16 at Marion County Knight Academy.

The event is open to the public and will include games, giveaways, and guest speakers.

Deadline for Work Ethic Seal is Oct. 31

Work Ethic Seal

The MCPS Work Ethic Seal application deadline has been extended to October 31. The Work Ethic Seal is offered through the MCPS Community Education program and is open to 9th-12th graders. Students who apply and meet the criteria will receive a special certificate; students who apply and meet the criteria each year of high school will receive a graduation medallion. You can access both a printable hard copy application and the online application at the link below.
